Xi Beta Herstory

"The Creation"

The Xi Beta Chapter at Winthrop University

The "Xhilarating" Xi Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was established on April 15, 1978 at Winthrop College. The National President at that time, Thelma T. Daley, granted permission to the South Atlantic Regional Director, Ruby Davis, to start a  collegiate chapter in Rock Hill, SC. Members of Rock Hill Alumnae completed the membership intake process for 15 Winthrop students concerned with serious endeavors and community service, now known as "The Foxy 15."  These 15 women started a rich legacy that continues to be upheld by current chapter members and all Sorors previously initiated through Xi Beta.  The charter members of Xi Beta are as follows:

Barbara Anderson

Janice Blake

Pamela Canty

Gina Cunningham**

Regina Floyd

Yvonne Freeman

Gloria Hoyles

Dianne Jackson

"Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition, he or she has overcome to reach his goals."
